What is a "Healthy Diet"?
The Dietary Guidelines describe a healthy diet as one that:
Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products.
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars.
Our program includes individual nutrition counseling conducted by a registered dietitian to establish a healthy eating pattern while lowering caloric intake. Nutrient intake data will be based on both historical recall and on 3-day food diaries. The nutritional assessment will identify dietary and micronutrient deficiencies. The goal of the program is to learn how to make smart eating choices and find a balance between intake and physical activity.
